Alpine & American Pika
Photography Workshop

In 2024, I am offering my Alpine & The American Pika photography Workshop during the months of June, July, August & September. Get your dates locked in soon!

These months are when the alpine is accessible and the creatures are most active.

For this wonderful photography workshop, we will be going on a short hike up to roughly 12-13,000ft in the alpine to spend time with American Pika above the clouds!

Please note that this elevation can be super rough if you are not used to high elevations. I don’t recommend this workshop for the first or second day of a vacation :)

This photography workshop is held in the Sawatch Range, near the town of Buena Vista.
If you would like to do this workshop in the San Juan Mountains, that is very possible but requires more challenging hiking and also is much more weather-dependent.

The American Pika is an animal I am extremely passionate about and knowledgeable on.
If you would like me to teach you about them and their biome, I am happy to!

Upon booking and having a quick email chat, I will get your workshop prepared and laid out in a PDF that you can take your time reading. This will include location details, hike details, times, what to expect, what to bring and other information that is helpful and relevant.

Some finer details:

This workshop is roughly 5 hours in length and time begins when we meet up at the trailhead or begin a 4x4 road together. The 5-hour timeframe is a general rule of thumb and the workshop may be slightly longer or shorter.

Workshops happen even if it’s rainy or storming. Lightening is a different story and requires we change the plan and get out of the alpine.

I only offer morning workshops- sorry night owls!

Wildlife sightings are never a guarantee, aside from the bell of the ball: the American Pika. However, I cannot guarantee we will see endless pika.

If you are flying in, the nearest airports for the san juan mountains are Durango (small) and Albuquerque (big). Denver is your best bet for Sawatch range workshops.
I’m happy to help you with some light planning- where to stay, eat, hike -I’m happy to help!

We put proper ethics above all else.
This workshop happens in an ecosystem that is unique and fragile.
No pets allowed, no drones allowed.

Hands down the best way I have ever spent my time on vacation while the other half of my group went for a huge hike. Brought my kiddos and learned a lot about pikas! Everyone loved it.
