Ongoing Study of the American Pika

The American Pika (Ochotona princeps), a species closely related to the rabbit and thriving in alpine environments, faces significant challenges due to climate change. Its population has experienced a considerable decline amidst global warming, compounded by the impact of human activities on their habitats. In response to these issues, I began my Pika Project in 2017, aiming to meticulously document these remarkable creatures while collecting comprehensive social, physical, and behavioral data.

My work involves extensive exploration of some of the least-visited mountains in the country, often requiring days of rigorous rucking to discover previously undocumented colonies. From the lower slopes to the highest peaks, my expeditions are dedicated to learning and documenting every aspect possible about these resilient animals.
